Ceramic Dental Fillings and Other Restorations with CEREC Technology

CEREC Scottsdale, AZMany dental practices offer restorations made of porcelain, but the process to obtain them and prepare the patient’s smile is often a process that can take weeks. Thankfully, today’s technology makes it easier than ever to obtain fast and beautiful crowns, fillings, veneers, and other restorations made from porcelain. Dr. Eric Wiitala of Scottsdale, AZ has reinvested into his practice to ensure his patients have access to the services they need with fast, effective results. This can be done with CEREC technology.

What is CEREC?

CEREC is a specialized software and milling system that uses digital impressions and CAD/CAM software to create a restoration while patients wait. The traditional means of placing a porcelain restoration often required preparations to the tooth and impressions done in one appointment, after which the dentist would place a temporary restoration. The impressions were sent to a dental laboratory that could take weeks to create the final restoration, and then patients were called to return back for a second appointment to remove the temporary and bond the final restoration in place. With CEREC, patients can enjoy restorations in as soon as fifteen minutes. Preparations are made, digital impressions are taken and then converted into CAD/CAM to mill a crown, filling, or other restoration out of a block of porcelain right in the dental office. This means patients can have preparations and placement done in just one visit to the dental chair!

What restorations are made with CEREC?

Restorations commonly created with CEREC include:

  • Dental crowns
  • Dental fillings
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Inlays/onlays

Are CEREC restorations natural-looking?

Restorations made from CEREC are just as beautiful, strong, and durable as any restoration made in an outside laboratory. There is no loss of quality by using this method.
