Are you dealing with missing teeth? If you’re looking for a way to fill the gaps left behind and restore your beautiful smile, you may want to ask our team about the use of dentures. Dentures can be used to replace one, several, or all of the teeth in the dental arch to give patients back the functionality of their smile—as well as the beauty! Dentures are a great solution for many of our patients who visit us at the practice of Dr. Eric Wiitala in Scottsdale, Arizona.
How do dentures work?
When patients think of dentures, they often think of the ill-fitted appliances worn by their grandparents that looked fake and never functioned as they should. However, dentures have come a long way! There are two different types of dentures used for tooth replacement, including partial dentures and full dentures. Partial dentures are appliances made to replace one or several teeth in the smile, while a full denture replaces them all. These devices are created to look as natural as possible, and continue to be an economical and viable solution for many men and women. The partial dentures use the existing teeth to support them in place, while full dentures can be kept in place using denture adhesives or dental implants.
Are dentures comfortable?
Dentures fabricated from a high-quality material and are made with accurate impressions of the patient’s current smile are often the best fit and function. This makes them comfortable to wear, even though patients will need some time to adjust to them. This adjustment period is perfectly normal! We encourage patients to come into the office if their dentures suddenly change in fit and function and require additional adjustments to ensure comfort.
Am I a candidate for dentures?
All patients who are free from periodontal disease and tooth decay may be considered appropriate for dentures. The best way to find out is to book a consultation visit with Dr. Eric Wiitala. He might also suggest alternative options for patients such as dental bridges or dental implants, depending on their unique situation.
